Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, announced the decision to appoint Aisen Nikolaev, Vice-President of UCLG, Mayor of Yakutsk, as Temporarily in Charge Head of the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic. Elections of the head of the republic will be held this autumn.
Aisen Nikolaev made a significant contribution to the international municipal movement. Being elected to the post of vice-president of the UCLG World Organization twice, in 2013 and 2016, Aisen Nikolaev effectively represents the interests of local and regional authorities of Eurasia at the global stage, participates in high-level dialogues. He is a key speaker in major world events such as the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, the World Assembly of Local and Regional Authorities, the World Urban Forum and others.
Sergey Ignatenko was appointed as Temporarily in Charge mayor of Yakutsk. He had been the First Deputy Head of the Urban District the City of Yakutsk for the Development of the Territories since 2014.
