World Conference on the Development of Cities, 13-16 February 2008, Porto Alegre, BrazilThe World Conference on the Development of Cities will take place inPorto Alegre, Brazil, 13-16 February 2008 under the title ?Democraticinnovation and social transformation for inclusive cities in the 21stcentury?.

United Cities and Local Governments is one of the key partners of this Conference that will focus on four broad themes:

1) the Right to the City (Local Policies on Citizens´ Rights and Responsibilities);
2) Governance and Democracy in Cities;
3) Local Development in Cities; and
4) Sustainability and the Network-City.

The main objective of the Conference is to capture the diversity of social innovation and transformation initiatives that have been emerging in the past few years. The Conference will be also an opportunity to map innovative experiences of democratic management and participation in cities, that will be invited to present and discuss their initiatives in various panels and workshops throughout the meeting.
