UCLG World Council in Istanbul, November 27 ? 31, 2008

UCLG World Council Meeting will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 27-31, 2008.  It will gather members of UCLG governing bodies, committees and working groups as well as leaders of regional sections of the organization. 

Delegation from Euro-Asia Regional Section of UCLG (UCLG Euro-Asia) will be headed by the President of the Section, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin. He will be accompanied by Assistant to Mayor of Kazan Mr. Ivan Kuznetsov and Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of Kazan  Mr. Oskar Prokopiev.

Also the delegation includes Secretary General of UCLG Euro-Asia, Councillor to Mayor of Kazan Mr. Rasikh Sagitov, Deputy Mayor of Berezniki City ? new member of UCLG ? Mr. Andrey Musikhin, and Deputy Head of the Association of Miner?s Cities of  Donets Basin Mr. Yuri Bobrov. Besides, the event will be attended by Authorized Representative of Tatarstan Republic in Turkey Mr. Radik Gimatdinov, his deputy Mr. Aidar Gashigullin, and Director General of Trading House ?Tatarstan? in Turkey Mr. Ramil Mavlutov.

During the five days UCLG working groups and committees will conduct their meetings on the urgent issues related to the activities of the organization such as new agreement on climate change, policy on social integration, risk reduction and etc.

Key events ? meeting of the Executive Bureau and World Council ? will take place on November 29 and 30 respectively (for details see the programme). In the meetings the participants are going to define the International Local Government Agenda. They will be invited to hear the report on the activities of United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities (UNACLA) and provide their recommendations and approve the approach suggested by UCLG concerning its future work plan, adopt UCLG-Cities Alliance Work-Programme, note the content of the six-year Medium Term Strategic and Institutional Plan developed by UN-Habitat, and establish new UCLG committees and working groups for 2009 ? 2010 etc.
