The Day of Grozny

Grozny celebrated the 196th anniversary since its foundation on October 5, 2014. Birthday of the capital of Chechnya coincided with the birthday of the head of the republic Ramzan Kadyrov. In the holiday Grozny was decorated with congratulatory banners and festive illuminations, the flags of Russia and Chechnya, as well as a sea of flowers.

“Birthday of the capital became one of our most favorite holidays. This day we celebrate the victory over the war, the victory over the devastation. Grozny indeed became for us a symbol of rebirth, unity, spirit of invincibility”, – said in his congratulatory speech the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.

The head of the republic reminded of time when Grozny “laid in ruins, and no one believed in its revival”. “There were proposals to move the capital to a new location. But the first president of the Chechen Republic, Hero of Russia Akhmad-Hadji Kadyrov strongly rejected them and promised to restore the ruined capital in the shortest possible time”, – said Ramzan Kadyrov about the will of his father.

He also said that “almost every citizen of the republic has contributed to the revival and development of Grozny, and the beauty of the capital appreciated a variety of guests”.

On the square in front of City Administration have been organized exhibitions, fairs, performances by Chechen pop stars, show of parachutists and air balloon flights. There were about 30 festivities. The city attended by 28 delegations from different regions of Russia. In the evening was held a gala concert of pop stars, and after that – fireworks.
