In December 2019, the Moscow delegation led by Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Moscow Government, Head of the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations, visited Rabat and Casablanca (Morocco) to discuss prospects for cooperation in the fields of economy, urban planning, culture and tourism. One of the main goals of the visit is the organization of joint projects in the field of urban development.

‘Moscow and Rabat are symbols of our countries, cities with a thousand-year history, organically combining historical heritage and modernity. We are faced with the same issues in the fields of ecology, infrastructure, social environment, urban sustainability, tourism development, cultural relations. And we plan to actively cooperate in all these areas’, Sergey Cheremin said.

The Moscow delegation met with Mohamed Sadiki, Mayor of Rabat. Following the meeting, a Declaration of Intent was signed between the commune of the city of Rabat and the Government of Moscow.

Earlier, in November 2019, Moscow and Alma-Ata signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for 2020–2023. The document provides for measures to enhance trade and economic cooperation and investment interaction. Cities also plan to actively exchange experience in management of housing and communal services, use of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies, organization of electronic document management and development of transport infrastructure. The humanitarian partnership will be based on cooperation in the fields of healthcare and education, development of museum and exhibition activities, organization of theater and concert programs and tours.
