Moscovites Disposed of More Than 850 Tons of Items With the Help of an App

Over a year and a half, Moscow citizens got rid of 30,000 items with the help of the "Unnecessary Items Removal" service. Washing machines, refrigerators and gas stoves were the most frequently handed over items for recycling. Large-sized appliances and metal objects can be disposed free of charge. The total weight of items recycled within a year and a half exceeds 850 tons.

Items removed on applications are sent to processing plants. 85% of disposed items become recyclable and get a second life.

As part of making the platform more inclusive, the service was adapted for users with visual impairments. Thanks to the feedback from users, the number of items that can be included in one application increased. There is also an opportunity to leave a comment on the application, for example, to inform in advance about the elevator that does not work in the house.

The service for unnecessary items removal is a joint project of the SPI “New Management Technologies”, the capital's Information Technology Department and the Department of Housing and Utilities Services. Removal services are provided by specialized organizations.
