Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments"
Astronomical observatories of KFU (Kazan Federal University) have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List that now comprises four Tatarstan sites. The republic is a leader among the Russian regions by this indicator.
The work on promoting the observatories has been underway since 2019 with the support of Mintimer Shaimiev, First President of Tatarstan, now State Advisor of the Republic of Tatarstan and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. The idea to include the Observatory named after V.Engelhardt in the UNESCO World Heritage List was put forward back in 2009.
Recall that the historical and architectural complex “Kazan Kremlin” (2000), the Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex (2014), as well as the Assumption Cathedral and the Monastery of the Island Sviyazhsk (2017) had been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List before.
