On Friday, 29 July, an agreement on the establishment of friendly relations was signed between Samara and Brest.

The delegation of the Samara Administration led by Elena Lapushkina has been on an official visit to the Republic of Belarus since July 28. The purpose of the visit was to sign an agreement on cooperation in the trade, economic, social, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The agreement will contribute to the preservation and expansion of cooperation in the fields of education, culture, sports, youth policy, tourism and the improvement of urban space, as well as to the creation of conditions for the development of trade and industrial relations and the establishment of direct friendly and partner links between educational and scientific institutions, public organizations of the two cities.

“I am convinced that the development of the modern city is impossible without the exchange of experience with colleagues from Russian and foreign cities. This applies absolutely to every sphere - socio-economic, industrial ones, urban economy”, Elena Lapushkina noted. “Our partnership with Brest will be the continuation of systematic work related to expanding cooperation between our region and the Republic of Belarus, set by the Governor of Samara Region Dmitry Azarov during his visit to Belarus in June 2022 and meetings with the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Belarus Boris Gryzlov”.

Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee Alexander Rogachuk also noted that he expects productive interaction and cooperation:

“I am sure that the signing of the agreement will contribute to both the growth of economic cooperation and the saturation of cultural exchange!”

The signing of the agreement took place in Brest on the occasion of the celebration of the 78th anniversary of the liberation of the city the Nazi invaders, which is also the city day.

Russia and Belarus have allied partnership relations. The Parties maintain a close and constructive political dialogue at the highest and high levels and cooperate intensively at the level of ministries and departments. It is important to note that Belarus is a strategic trade and economic partner of Samara Region, and it is one of the leading countries in terms of foreign trade turnover among partner countries. Cooperation in trade and economic and investment spheres is developing. Cultural and educational ties are expanding.

Thus, in June 2022, a representative delegation of Samara Region under the leadership of Governor Dmitry Azarov visited the Republic of Belarus. The delegation of Samara Region included heads of sectoral ministries, as well as representatives of the largest companies of the region.
