The municipalities of Khabarovsk and Yakutsk have signed an agreement on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.

The document was signed by Mayor of Khabarovsk Alexander Sokolov and acting head of the district administration of Yakutsk Igor Nikiforov. The parties intend to contribute to the development of trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural relations. It is also planned to carry out the exchange of information on organization and holding of exhibitions, presentations and seminars.

Relations between enterprises, businessmen and social institutions will develop as part of inter-municipal cooperation too. Yakut professionals will come to Khabarovsk in order to exchange experiences; the residents of Khabarovsk, in their turn, will visit the capital of the Republic of Sakha more often as well. The parties plan to develop contacts between students, educational institutions, organize summer camps for children. The agreement also provides the exchange of creative teams and development of contacts in the field of physical education and sport. The agreement will be valid for five years and will automatically be extended for successive five-year period in case of high performance.

According to Igor Nikiforov, there is a lot in common between Khabarovsk and Yakutsk, from climate conditions to mentality of citizens. He believes that there is a lot to learn from the capital of the Far East, in particular, the issues of recycling and municipal improvement.
