As part of the current monitoring of a city storm drainage system, the Municipal Budgetary Institution “Severnoye” has started to employ a robotized telemetry facility purchased by the municipality as part of updating a municipal enterprise’s material and technical base. This is the first sample of such equipment in municipal road services.
The main intended use of the telemetry facility is to inspect city networks of precipitation discharge in order to identify exact locations of the formed blockage of and damage to pipelines, etc. A self-propelled device covered with a special anti-corrosion compound and equipped with a video camera, a wide viewing angle, having a rotating ability around its axis by 360 degrees and a system of optical and electronic image magnification is at its core. Capabilities of the facility enable to operate in pipelines of various diameters – from 300 to 200 cm. The system is completely sealed and is designed to work at a temperature up to minus 20 degrees Celsius.
Let us remind that municipal enterprises, servicing a street and road network of Volgograd, on an ongoing basis carry out works to ensure a smooth operation of a storm water drainage system, including the periods of spring snow melting and heavy rains, when waste brought by streams of water gets into catch basins. When storm water drains are being cleaned, workers often remove plastic bags, food wrappers, plastic bottles and elements of clothing and footwear. For these purposes, the MBI “Severnoye” and the Municipal Unitary Enterprise of Road Construction and Maintenance Works of the Sovetsky District of Volgograd have specialized equipment with devices for high-quality cleaning and unblocking storm water drains. A new telemetry facility will allow to increase the efficiency of monitoring for prompt response and arranging necessary works in pipelines.
Besides, the municipality has acquired four more units of specialized equipment for the enterprise: two canal washing machines and two suction pumps. After the equipment arrives, it will be included in the arsenal of tools used for current maintenance of the city storm water drainage system.
