Eurasia Regional Section of the World organization "United Cities and Local Governments"
The Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF 10) under the theme ‘Cities of Opportunities - Connecting Culture and Innovation’ opened in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on February 8, 2020. This Forum gathered 18,000 participants from 168 countries. The United Cities and Local Governments World Organization was represented at the Forum by a large delegation from all regions of the world.
The program of the Forum included open discussions and plenary sessions dedicated to the innovative mechanisms of financing for sustainable cities, urban solutions in the field of housing, mobility, planning and management, the impact of migration on cities and many other issues. The program of the Forum will see presentations of 450 speakers.
The voice of the Eurasian region at the meeting of the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments was presented by Mayor of Turkestan Rashid Ayupov and Minister of External Relations and Ethnic Affairs of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Gavril Kirillin on February 8.
On February 9, President of UCLG-Eurasia, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin took the floor at the round table of local and regional governments ‘Dialogue between mayors and ministers’. During the special session on Voluntary Local Reviews of the Sustainable Development Goals, Mayor of Rostov-on-Don Zinaida Neyarokhina told about the highlights of the statistical compendium “Rostov Region – the Movement towards Sustainable Development Goals” that was presented in Rostov region in 2019.
On February 10, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin chaired the meeting of the United Nations Advisory Committee on Local Authorities (UNACLA). As a reminder, last November, at VI UCLG World Congress, Ilsur Metshin was elected as President of the Advisory Committee. This year’s first meeting of UNACLA took stock of activities for the period of 2015-2019. The key issue of the meeting’s agenda was the report of the mayor of Kazan about the vision of activities of UNACLA for the coming years. The outcome of the meeting was the roadmap for 2020.
Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia Rasikh Sagitov, Deputy Mayor of Kazan Evgeniia Lodvigova, Head of Mendeleevsky Municipal District of the Republic of Tatarstan Valery Chershintsev, representatives of Moscow and Sverdlovsk region, etc. took part in the events of the WUF 10 as well.
