Bishkek and Astana Addressed from the UN Rostrum

The SDG 2023 Summit that started in New York (USA) as part of the High-level Week of the UN General Assembly on September 16 comes to an end today. The Summit has marked the halfway point in terms of the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The event is being held at the UN Headquarters.

The Presidents of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have participated in the Summit. UCLG-Eurasia has been represented at the meeting by delegations from the cities of Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and Astana (Kazakhstan) headed by Kuvanychbek Kongantiev, Chairman of Bishkek City Council, and Erlan Bekmurzaev, Deputy Mayor, respectively.

“Today we are all united by one goal – it is the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. It is very important that all the goals would be actually implemented and would contribute to the creation of a comfortable living environment in cities with a dynamic economy, developed social sphere and efficient management”, Kuvanychbek Kongantiev said.

As a reminder, the SDG Summit resulted in a joint political declaration from local and regional governments, recognizing the opportunities and challenges in achieving the SDGs.
