A session of the UCLG Standing Committee on Gender Equality was held on September 27 under the chair of Fatimatou Abdel Malik, President of Nouakchott Regional Council.
The Committee members presented regional priorities and discussed the upcoming stages of the Committee's activities during the meeting. UCLG-Eurasia was represented at the event by Evgeniya Lodvigova, Vice-Mayor of Kazan, and Victoriya Mozgacheva, Deputy Mayor of Bishkek.
In her speech, Victoriya Mozgacheva noted that “it is essential that men and women, boys and girls enjoy equal rights, opportunities, protection and resources in order to maintain and develop healthy societies” and that “it is vital that theory finds its expression directly in the practical component”, giving the examples of Kyrgyzstan and Tatarstan in promoting this directly in practice.
Note: the Standing Committee on Gender Equality represents women's interests in the UCLG World Organization. It prioritizes the UCLG’s gender agenda and working methods, facilitates debates, ensures decision making and monitoring of any gender equality issues and processes.
