From 13 to 15 June, Seville hosted meetings of the Executive Bureau of the “United Cities and Local Governments” World Organization as part of the Mediterranean Urban Migration Forum in a hybrid format, attended by mayors of cities from around the world. The common theme of sessions of the Executive Bureau was "Local and Regional Governments Fostering Peace at the Front Line of Emergencies".
UN-Habitat, UCLG and the International Center for Migration Policy Development have been collaborating for 10 years, putting migration issues on local agendas to increase local participation in national and global policy development. The joint organization of the Forum in Seville with the support of local governments is another indication of the successful partnership in fulfilling the ambition to ensure territorial solidarity and cooperation of people.
That is why the main discussions of the Executive Bureau were devoted not only to the importance of local and territorial actions in creating peaceful conditions, but also in managing crises and resolving everyday conflict situations, such as managing migration and refugees within the territories of the countries of the world.
“Local and regional governments are territorial structures closest to citizens. They are a tool to ensure equality, provide services and guarantee rights,” Isabel Rodriguez, Minister for Territorial Governance of Spain, highlighted.
