Local and regional governments need practical solutions to urban development issues in order to respond to the needs and aspirations of citizens. UCLG-Eurasia, like the World Organization of UCLG that unites municipalities from all over the world is better informed like no one else about global trends in urban development and inter-municipal cooperation.
One of these trends is the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), i.e. the implementation of the SDGs at the local level. The SDGs have been ratified by all countries of the Eurasia region and are aimed at solving global problems. They include the combating of climate change, addressing the issues in the field of health care, education, socio-economic development and many others. Each municipality, implementing projects and initiatives at the local level, actually achieves global goals and contributes to solving problems of global importance.
The UCLG’s learning agenda is based on the positive experience accumulated by UCLG’s member and partner cities and aims to disseminate this knowledge to strengthen the capacity of local governments to promote sustainable urban development for the benefit and prosperity of their citizens.
For this purpose, UCLG-Eurasia organizes seminars on sustainable development designed for local leaders of Eurasia municipalities, heads and staffers of structural units responsible for the development of external relations and urban planning.
The program of the seminars builds on training modules developed by the UCLG World Organization, the United Nations Development Program and UN-Habitat, and takes into account the specifics of the region. Upon completion of the seminar, participants are awarded certificates.
To date, seminars have been held for local governments of Kyzyl, Ulan-Ude, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Republic of Tuva (Russia), Dushanbe, Khujand (Tajikistan), Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Abkhazia; Bishkek, members of the Union of Local Self-Governments of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzstan), the Association of Communities of Armenia.
