On August 2, 2023, the learning workshop dedicated to the theme “Local Governments and the SDGs” and organized by UCLG-Eurasia with the support of the Municipality and Khural of Representatives of Kyzyl took place in the city of Kyzyl.
The event was attended by staffers of the Kyzyl Municipality responsible for the issues of life support, improvement of the city, social development, economy, greening, housing, youth policy, construction, culture, education, road maintenance, health, security, land and property relations, law violation prevention, legal protection, sports, etc.
Rasikh Sagitov, Secretary General of UCLG-Eurasia, and Ayas Lopsan, Deputy Chairman of the Khural of Representatives of Kyzyl, delivered a welcome address to the participants of the seminar. “The SDGs can be achieved, if they are implemented in cooperation with all levels of governments – national, regional and local. It is important to support the efforts of our Russian Governments in achieving the sustainable development by implementing the SDGs on the ground,” Rasikh Sagitov highlighted.
Tansylu Nurieva, Learning and Research Program Coordinator of UCLG-Eurasia, presented the main principles of the SDGs, as well as the public policy planning in view of the SDGs and voluntary local reviews prepared by cities.
Saida Zagidullina, Director for Development of UCLG-Eurasia, presented the participants best practices in the field of combating climate change and told what actions could be taken by local governments to reduce global warming and improve ecology of their city. In addition, she noted that awareness-raising work is an important element of the SDGs implementation on the ground.
Currently, the city of Kyzyl is developing the Strategy of Socio-economic Development up to 2030, and during the seminar the opportunity of integrating the SDGs into the strategy was considered.
At the end of the workshop, all participants were awarded certificates.
